Oban Whisky

Oban is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky from the west-coast town of the same name, where distilling began in the late eighteenth century. Founded by brothers John and Hugh Stevenson, the distillery sits unusually close to the harbour and the heart of the town, giving it a distinctive urban-coastal identity within the Highland category.

Now owned by Diageo, Oban is one of the smaller distilleries in the company's Scotch whisky portfolio and is best known for Oban 14 Year Old, long associated with the Classic Malts selection. The distillery's limited scale and coastal setting have helped preserve a house style that sits between mainland Highland elegance and a subtle island-like salinity.

The whisky is typically rounded and moderately full, with notes of orchard fruit, citrus, honeyed malt, gentle spice and a faint thread of smoke or sea air. Expressions such as Oban 14 Year Old, Oban Little Bay and the Distillers Edition show the spirit's balance well, combining fruit and malt sweetness with a dry, mineral finish.

Oban's appeal lies in its poise rather than power. It is a refined West Highland malt with enough maritime character to feel distinctive, yet enough softness and polish to remain widely accessible.
