Much is made of the ‘auld alliance’ - in France and in Scotland. With the French occupying a top spot in the market, as the highest per-capita consumption of Scotch whisky in western Europe, it’s no small honour to be the biggest selling single malt in France. French ownership by Pernod-Ricard probably doesn’t hurt but Aberlour’s achievement is still significant.
Known for their use of extensive use of sherry casks - which is not to say that ex-bourbon barrels don’t get a look in - Aberlour produce a range of whiskies which include accessible and easy to drink drams such as their Aberlour 10 year old through to a heavily sherried, cask strength, and yet very affordable expression - A’Bunadh. Independent bottlers including Duncan Taylor also release some fine limited edition examples of Aberlour whisky.
