Plantation Rum

Plantation Rum is now known as Planteray Rum, following Maison Ferrand's decision to rename the brand in response to concerns around the historical associations of the word "plantation". The transition began publicly in 2024, with some markets and older stock still using the former name for a period, but the current brand identity is Planteray.

Founded by Alexandre Gabriel of Maison Ferrand, the brand is built around sourcing, ageing and blending rums from different countries rather than producing from a single estate or distillery. Its portfolio spans Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad, Guyana and several other rum-making origins, with many releases matured in the tropics before secondary ageing or finishing in Ferrand Cognac casks in France.

The range includes accessible cocktail-focused bottlings, country-specific rums, aged blends and limited editions, with styles varying widely by origin and cask treatment. Across the portfolio, drinkers can find everything from bright, fruity white rum and rich Barbados blends to high-ester Jamaican styles, dark Demerara influence, spice, vanilla, tropical fruit, oak and Cognac-cask polish.

Planteray remains one of the most recognisable modern rum houses because it presents rum as a global, terroir-led category rather than a single fixed style. The new name changes the label, but the underlying idea stays the same: carefully selected rums from different traditions, shaped through blending, maturation and a strongly French approach to finishing.
