Royal Brackla is a Highland single malt distillery on the Cawdor Estate near Nairn, founded in 1812 by Captain William Fraser. It is one of the few Scotch whisky distilleries entitled to use the word "Royal", having received a royal warrant from King William IV in the 1830s, with Queen Victoria later renewing the honour.
Today Royal Brackla is owned by Bacardi through John Dewar & Sons and sits within the same portfolio as Dewar's, Aberfeldy, Aultmore, Craigellachie and The Deveron. Although much of the distillery's spirit has historically been important for blending, Royal Brackla has developed a clearer single malt identity in recent years, with a sherry-led range built around age-stated expressions such as the 12, 18, 21 and 25 Year Old.
The style is refined, rounded and fruit-rich, often showing baked apple, apricot, vanilla, honey, toasted nuts and soft spice. Sherry cask finishing plays a central role in the current range, adding layers of dried fruit, chocolate, orange peel and polished oak while preserving the distillery's elegant Highland character.
Royal Brackla works best when viewed as a polished Highland malt with a quietly aristocratic edge. Its royal story gives it distinction, but the whisky itself is defined more by balance, texture and sherry-cask poise than by ceremony alone.
