Glen Keith is a Speyside single malt distillery in the town of Keith, built by Chivas Brothers in the late 1950s. It was the first new distillery to open in Speyside after the whisky downturn of the early twentieth century, giving it a distinctly modern place in a region better known for much older names.
Today Glen Keith is owned by Chivas Brothers, part of Pernod Ricard. The distillery was mothballed in 1999 and reopened in 2013 after major refurbishment, returning primarily as a producer of malt whisky for blending. Its spirit has long been associated with blends such as Chivas Regal, Passport and 100 Pipers, while official single malt bottlings and independent releases give drinkers a more direct look at the distillery's character.
Glen Keith was historically known for experimentation, including early use of triple distillation and work on peated styles such as Glenisla and Craigduff. The whisky itself is typically light, fresh and fruit-driven, with notes of apple, pear, citrus, vanilla, honey, malt and gentle spice. Older or richer cask-influenced bottlings can add more creaminess, tropical fruit, toffee and polished oak.
Glen Keith remains a relatively quiet name despite its scale and importance to Chivas Brothers. As a single malt, it offers a clean, approachable Speyside style with a modern distillery story behind it: practical, versatile and more interesting than its low public profile might suggest.
